ComPort/IP Server

RS232 to TCP/IP Converter

ComPort/IP Server is an easy-to-use solution intended for managing RS232 devices without the use of expensive routers such as Cisco © 2511 Terminal Server.

ComPort/IP Server operates as a telnet server allowing the user to connect directly to a remote serial port (RS232) using TCP/IP connection. It is possible to connect to ComPort/IP Server using any available telnet application and send text commands to remote serial equipment directly. When combined with TCP-File program, ComPort/IP Server allows for logging data received from a remote serial port to a disk file on local machine.

ComPort/IP Server is included in ComPort/IP Utilities software package, however it can be used separately as an RS232 to TCP/IP Converter.

Features:

  • The data received from serial port is converted to the format of TCP/IP packets and is sent to TCP/IP port and vice versa;
  • When ComPort/IP Server is running, data received from TCP/IP port is sent to serial port(s) permanently. Total number of serial ports can be up to 256 with an individual TCP/IP port assigned to each serial port;
  • ComPort/IP Server implements a bridge between a TCP/IP port and a serial port. The user can access equipment connected to a remote serial port using any telnet application available (HyperTerminal, Tterm etc.);
  • ComPort/IP Server allows any number of users access any serial port;
  • ComPort/IP Server is capable of restricting access to any serial port by password-protecting connections.

The diagram below illustrates the operation of ComPort/IP Server:

The user can connect to a remote TCP/IP port, that is used by ComPort/IP Server, and operate equipment connected to a remote serial port. This allows equipment operator take full control of any number of serial devices from anywhere. The operator only requires having Internet, Intranet or any other TCP/IP based network connection and administrator rights on the machine where ComPort/IP Server is installed.
